It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mattie Ruth Adams of Winder, Georgia, born in Buford, Georgia, who passed away on February 9, 2026, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her husband Wayne Adams; her daughter Angela Matthews; her parents, J. D. Hudgins and Beatrice Akins Hudgins; her siblings, Margaret Mooney, Hugh Hudgins, Charles Hudgins and Jerry Hudgins; and her former husband Lewis Matthews.
She is survived by: her children, Dean Shirley (Cindy) of Winder, Dave Shirley (Regina) of Adrian, GA and Doug Wood (Surata) of Florida; her grandchildren, Nick Shirley, Ryan Shirley, Joe Tillman, Jennifer Barton, Christian Shirley, Shelby Shirley and Zakira Wood; and her siblings, Sue McDaniel of Lawrenceville, GA, Dillard Hudgins (Linda) of Carnesville, GA, Billy Hudgins of Monroe, GA and Harrison Hudgins (Regina) of Lawrenceville. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
