He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Fuhua Jiang and Rongzhi Li; his wife Ping; his son Tian (Kevin); his daughter-in-law Ann Hickox; his granddaughter Charlotte; and his siblings, Feng Jiang and Hao Jiang.
He was especially well known for his contributions to understanding the neuronal networks that generate and control respiratory rhythm, changes in ionic homeostasis during brain hypoxia, the modulation of ion channels—particularly potassium ion channels—during oxygen deprivation, and intrinsic mechanisms that protect nerve cells from injury.
