Harry Louis Soffner Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Harry Louis Soffner of Kihei, Hawai’i announces his passing on
June 18th
, 2021, at the age of 63 at Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawai’i. Harry died from injuries
sustained during a traffic collision while riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle on June 6th
, 2021, in Kihei,
Hawai’i.
Harry was born on October 28th, 1957 in Redwood City, California to Charles and Lenie (Jouvenaar)
Soffner five months after they emigrated to the United States from the Netherlands in seek of a better
life for their growing family. Harry was a proud first-generation American who grew up in San Jose and
Santa Cruz, California. In 1978, Harry was married to his first wife Alice Francine Crabtree with whom he
had two children. In 1985, Harry moved the family to Waikoloa on the Big Island of Hawai’i in seek of a
new start for his young family. After a marriage of 20 years, Harry and Francine divorced, and Harry
settled himself on the beautiful island of Maui where he felt most at home and eventually met his
current girlfriend, Amy Cabingas.
Harry was an incredibly talented and skilled man who strived for perfection in his work and settled for
nothing less. In Harry’s final chapter of life, he worked as a skilled tile setter, general contractor, and ran
his own business for many years. Everyone who knew Harry knew him to have a remarkable love of
animals (including his 6 cats and dog at the time of his death), a great sense of humor, and a tireless
work ethic. He was a hard worker who, for most of his life, worked six days a week. He enjoyed working
as well as surfing, boating, fishing, dirt biking, and riding his Harley Davidson as he was a lifelong
motorcycle enthusiast. Although his death was nothing short of tragic, and much too early, he died
doing one of the things he loved to do the most.
Harry was preceded in death by his father Charles and three brothers, Robert, Rudy, and Charlie Soffner.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Amy Cabingas (and the Cabingas ohana); his daughter, Leilani (Andrew)
Anderson; his son, Christopher (April) Soffner; his two grandchildren, Andrew Todd Anderson and Oliver
Scott Anderson of Washington State; his mother Lenie Hengst of California; brother Emile (Barbara)
Soffner of Washington State; sisters Jeanette Soffner and Yvonne Powell of California, and numerous
nieces and nephews. May he rest in peace and ride like the wind. Memorial contributions can be made
in tribute to Harry at the Maui Humane Society. A scattering of Harry’s ashes and a Celebration of Life
will be held at a later date on Maui. Harry is under the care of Borthwick Mortuary
