He was predeceased by: his parents, Wyatt Heyl and Josephine Heyl (Christensen); his sons, Robert Heyl and Scott Heyl; and his sister Gladys Rozell.
He is survived by: his close friend Barbara McPherson; his children, Linda Christensen (Terry) of Hinton, IA, Roger Heyl (Deanna) of Elk Point, SD, Alan Heyl (Barbie) of Yankton, SD, David Heyl (Kim) of Akron, IA, Stephany Winston of Omaha, NE and Lindsey Dacy (Tim) of Sioux Falls, SD; and his grandchildren, Tara Wachendorf (James), Derek Heyl, Jordan Heyl, Connor Heyl, Mackenzie Schaffert (Josh), Caitlin Muhlbauer (Jason), Wyatt Heyl, Amber Heyl, Amanda Ackerson (Nate), Quinn Heyl, Jarett Heyl (Carli), Arlena Heyl, Kenya Winston, Kendall Kniffen and Kinley Dacy. He is also survived by twelve great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials can be made in Don's name to the Akron Golf Course.
