She was predeceased by: her husband Virgil Gabel; her grandson Brian Gabel; her son Michael; and her siblings, Harry Ahrens and Ruby Nordgren.
She is survived by: her children, Patty Kopp (Chuck) of Kennewick, WA and Richard Gabel (Sue) of Akron, IA; her grandchildren, Jennifer Krug (Rob), Carin Jones (Eric) and Krystal Gabel; her great grandchildren, Ethan, Abby Krug, Alicia, Jadyn Jones and Mackenzie Engler; and her sisters, Rosie Hoffman of Akron, IA and Mary Archer (Roy) of North Carolina. She is also survived by sisters-in law; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, Irene requested that memorials be sent to the Akron Care Center and Immanuel Lutheran Church.
