He was predeceased by: his parents, Jake B. De and Josephine Van De (Van Bruggen); his parents-in-law, Ed and Elvina Vander Vegte; his brothers-in-law, Don Vander Vegte, Stan Vander Vegte, Leroy Schwarz and Walt De Blauw; and his nephew Chris De Zeeuw.
He is survived by: his wife Phyl of Orange City; his children, Dan (Val Van De Griend), Randy (Bev Van De Griend) and Sara (Kreg Lensch) of Dubuque; his grandchildren, Todd (Mandy Van De Griend), Rebecca (Dan Laird), Jacob (Leandra Van De Griend), Maegan (Roman Stokes), Derek (Meaghan Olsen) and Jeff (CaLeigh Olsen); his grandchildren-in-law, Carolyn and Glen De Zeeuw of Windsor, Colorado; his grandchildren, Brenda and Kevin Fanders of Council Bluffs; and also Rod. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters.
