He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Chantland and Dena Chantland (Olson); his wife Betty Chantland (Polka); his siblings, Gladys Strellner, Gilbert Chantland and Francis Ford; and his son-in-law Gary Lenz.

He is survived by: his daughters, Nancy Lenz of Shakopee, MN, Carol Nicklaus (David) of Webster Groves, MO and Susan Petersen (Jack) of Clive, IA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
