He was predeceased by: his parents, Anna Marie Best (McMahon) and Bob Marie; and his brothers-in-law, Gary Banks and Nicky Poppen. He is survived by: his wife Darla Best (Poppen); his children, Brendan Best and Nicole McCarthy; his son-in-law Dave; his grandson Parks McCarthy; his siblings, Bob (Kathy), Bill (Peggy), Ben, Brian, Barb, Bev and Bridget (Bud); his in-laws, Marvin and Carolyn Poppen; and his siblings-in-law, Sondra Hickman (Michael) and Craig Poppen (Nancy). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 20th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church (2900 Hoover Ave, Ames, IA 50010). A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 20th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 20th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Ames Municipal Cemetery (310 E 9th St, Ames, IA 50010).
