He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Shaffer and Nellie Shaffer (Mayne); his wife Toni Shaffer; his children, Cathy George and David Lidgett; his grandchildren, Seth Long, David Lidgett and Bethany Lidgett; and his son-in-law Robert Lidgett.
He is survived by: his children, Daniel Lidgett (Cindy), William Shaffer (Amy), Robert Shaffer (Barb) of Ames, Danetta Hiatt, Lorraine "Lorri" Shaffer, Sonja Stephan (Steve) and Lisa Lemon. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
