She was predeceased by: her parents, Harry Jones and Rachel Jones (Miller); her husband Wayne Oran Ostendorf; and her siblings, Donna Beebout, Phyllis Mitchell, Charles Jones, Ronald Jones, Russell "Eddie" Jones and Mary Kuiper.

She is survived by: her daughter Nancy Ann (Mark); her grandchildren, Jackson Thompson (Sydney) and Juliet Thompson; her son Alan (Angela); her grandchildren, Allison, Brennan, Collin, Drew and Ethan Ostendorf; and her friends, Linda Jones and Maxine Jones.

Memorials may be directed to Eleanor's passions: University Museums, Raising Readers, and Food At First, all of Ames, Iowa.
