He was predeceased by : his mother Lorretta Buchheit (Thompson); and his sister Cathy. He is survived by : his wife Kris Mangels; his son Alex Buchheit; his father Francis "Bill" Buchheit; his sisters, Beth Ackerman (Joe) and Lisa Williams (Steve); his siblings-in-law, Lisa Volk (Pat) and Eric Mangels (Julie); and also Francis. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to Ames Animal Shelter or Animal Rescue League.
