He was predeceased by: his parents, John W. Newell and Hazel Hirschman Newell; his wife Mary Flannery of Mary's Catholic Church; his siblings, Jim Newell and Betty Thomsen; his siblings-in-law, Rita Smith, Kay Ross, Francis Thomsen, Don Smith, Bill Ross and John Flannery; and his parents-in-law, Leo and Bertha Flannery.
He is survived by: his daughter Ann Guthrie (Bob); his grandsons, Luke Guthrie (Dawn) and Lionel Silverston (Cyreen); and his sisters-in-law, Helen Newell and Suzie Flannery. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
