James Howard Safly Obituary
We are sad to announce that, on September 6, 2023, at the age of 84, James Howard Safly (Ames, Iowa) passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Safly and Frances Safly (McKim); his wife Joyce Elaine Bravard; his brother Steve Safly; his parents-in-law, Everett and Dorothy Bravard; his stepmother-in-law Ella Bravard; his daughter Julienne Blomgren; his son-in-law Douglas Blomgren; his nephew Joe Bravard; and his adoptive son Bob Green.
He is survived by: his children, Joel Safly of Fort Myers, Jason Safly (Anne) of Lenexa, Kansas and Janet Kilmer (Brian) of Ames; his daughter-in-law Christine Blomgren of Ankeny; his grandchildren, Jennifer Ciha (Tom), Sean Blomgren (Katie), Kerra Blomgren, Josh Blomgren, Krystal Blomgren, James Robert Blomgren (J. R.), James Potter, Jordin Safly, Keaten Safly, Lisa Kilmer, Hannah Reaves (Joel), Onna Kilmer, Bailey Kilmer, Samuel Safly and Lydia Safly; his great grandchildren, Emily, Grant and James; his grandchildren, Hunter, Cole, Jayden, Jaylen, Jacoby, Jule, Aria, Rhea, Micah, Kayser and Kai'Ayer; his brother Jack Safly (Julie) of Ankeny; and his siblings-in-law, Connie Safly of Ames, Jerry Bravard (Linda) of Boone, Kenny Bravard (Denise) of Ankeny, Lynda Hartmann (Tom) of Grand Forks and Marlys Bravard of Boone. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Memorials may be given to the Joyce Safly / Julienne Blomgren Memorial 4-H Scholarship, or given to the United Community Schools Foundation in Jim and Joyce's name, or to Jim Goodrich with Campus Crusade for Christ at that other state university down on I-80.
