She was predeceased by: her parents, Richard E. Melson and Eva Mae Melson (Frieden); her husband John Mathison; her brother James; and her sister-in-law Arlene Melson.
She is survived by: her son Randall (Christina); her grandchildren, Warren Jyan-Yi John and Madalene Yuwa-Mei Patricia of Columbus, Ohio; her daughter Margaret of Ames, Iowa; her brother-in-law Mark Mathison (Rebecca) of Noblesville, Indiana; and her nieces and nephews, Christopher Melson, Stephanie Melson Shephard (Michael), Katherine Melson Johnson (Matthew), Scott Mathison (Amy), Jeffery Mathison (Tracy) and Sally Mathison Holt (Tripp).
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care (414 Lincoln Way, Ames, IA 50010). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Iowa State University Memorial (2229 Lincoln Way, Ames, IA 50014).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the United Way of Story County or Breathing New Life (MN).
