He was predeceased by : his children, Kurt Matthew Sargent and Catherine Michelle Sargent. He is survived by : his wife Sherry Sargent of Ames; and his siblings, Ann Samuels (Rob) of Saint Louis, MO, Phil Sargent (Susan) of Fraser, CO and Dan Sargent (Pam) of Ames. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
