She was predeceased by: her parents, Clell Westgate and Eva Westgate (Kritzer). She is survived by: her husband Donald H. Phipps; her children, Harold Phipps (Dawn) of Polk City and Janine Seibert (Jon) of Fort Myers, Florida; her grandchildren, Courtney Edwards (Jimmy) of Mission Hills, Colin Seibert (Samantha) of Batavia and Andy Gerleman (Brookly) of Des Moines; her great grandchildren, Harmony, Ava and Zoe Gerleman; and her brother Verlyn Westgate of Coeur. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In memory of Marlys, memorials may be directed to the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at Indiana University in Indianapolis, Indiana.
