It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Shirley Grathwohl of Ames, Iowa, who passed away on November 23, 2025, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Merlin Beadle and Maxine Beadle (Rudd); her stepfather Sidney DeBoer; her brothers, Tebbe DeBoer and Brian Beadle; and her son-in-law Tom Hammitt.
She is survived by: her husband Bob Grathwohl of Ames; her daughter Dawn Hammitt of River Falls, Wisconsin.; her grandchildren, Joseph Jordet (Kristine), Mitchell Buchman (Savannah), Cole Buchman, Jennifer Crowley (Brandon) and Tony Gensler (Mattie Chapman); her great grandchildren, Rylan, Ialey, Westyn, Soren, Hayden Jordet, Tara, Jake, Levi, Kala Crowley, Freya, Rowan Buchman and Lily Gensler; her sisters, Diana Novotny (Bob) and Gloria Jendersee; and her sister-in-law Daryl Beadle.
Shirley's family suggests that memorial contributions may be left in her memory to First United Methodist Church in Ames, and sent to their attention, c/o Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames.
