He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman E. Van Zee and Ann M. Van Zee (Spalink); his siblings, Donna (Warren Nikkel) and David Van Zee; his nephews, Chris Wilson and David Wilson; his siblings-in-law, Lois Vande Lune, Helen Groenendyk, Lowell Vande Lune, Maurice Groenendyk, Marvin Struik and David Vander Pol; and his parents-in-law, Hubert and Hendrika Struik.
He is survived by: his wife Carol Van Zee; his daughters, Lisa Hansen (Pat) of Kansas City and Gretchen Lowe (Sean) of Ankeny, Iowa; his grandchildren, Benjamin Hansen (Madison), Megan Parks (Keaton), Ava Lowe and Owen Lowe; his brother Randy Van Zee (Sheryl); and his sisters-in-law, Dianna Van Zee, Rita Gibson, Linda Vande Lune (Loren), Phyllis Vander Pol and Loretta Struik. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ben's memory to EveryStep Kavanaugh House in Des Moines.
