He was predeceased by: his father Richard Sommerlot. He is survived by: his mother Ramona Sommerlot (Reed) of Marshalltown; his wife Teri Alleman; his daughters, Kathryn Fukuda (Masaki) of Ankeny, Olivia (Xin Chen) of Berlin, Germany and Carly (Ron Galvan) of Nashville, Tennessee; his granddaughter Sophie Fukuda; and his siblings, Dianna Nelson (Ron), Steve (Evelyn) and Roger (Geri).

Memorial contributions can be made to the Boy Scouts Camp Mitigwa (http://www.campiowa.org.) for camp improvements.
