He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman Thoreson and Helen Thoreson; his brothers, Leo and Richard Thoreson; and his great grandchild Ellie Garton.
He is survived by: his wife Carole; his children, Sam Thoreson of Ankeny, Brandon Thoreson (Cori Shanahan) of Ankeny and Bri Hughes (Dave) of Waterloo, NE; his grandchildren, Max Garton (Michaela), Cole Garton (Madison), Olivia Hughes, Mia Hughes, Noble Shanahan Thoreson, Royal Shanahan Thoreson and Flynn Shanahan Thoreson; his great grandchild Everett Garton; and his sisters, Marlene McCall and Marcia Thoreson.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny, IA 50023). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Bethesda Lutheran Church (703 Pine St, Moorhead, IA 51558). A burial will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 at 6:00 PM at the Spring Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Croix or Alcoholics Anonymous.
