He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Simmer and Audrey Russell (Miller); his stepparents, Gretchen Simmer and Darrell Russell; his siblings, Linda Pate and Gary Simmer; and his sister-in-law Lynette.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley Simmer; his children, Shawn Robair, Bonnie Young (Dave), Kelly Simmer and Karen Denger (Mike); his grandchildren, Chantel (Marlon), Adam (Jacklyn), Michael (Taylor), Ashlynn, David, Ray, Zeke and Juan; his great grandchildren, Soul and Samuel; his sister Renee Simmer; and his brother-in-law Jerry Pate. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
