He was predeceased by: his mother Gloria Louise Simpson (Jones). He is survived by: his father Gerald Albert Simpson; his wife Susan; his daughters, Audrey Steenhoek (Todd) and Emily Hansen (Nathan); his granddaughter Charlotte Hansen; his siblings, Jon Michael Simpson (Shelly), Mark Simpson (Karen) and Sarah Enos (Jon); his mother-in-law Sarah Sandy; his brothers-in-law, Edward Sandy (Beth) and Kevin Sandy (Catherine); and his siblings' children, Kyle Sandy, Abby Fowler, Wade Sandy, Grant Sandy, Kolt Sandy, Leif Sandy, Joshua Sandy, Rachel Gallagher, Spencer Simpson, Cameron Simpson, Ethan, Noah Simpson and Tyler Simpson.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Lutheran Church of Hope for the Ames Building Fund.
