Betty Placzek Obituary
With sadness, we share the passing of Betty Placzek of Atlantic, Iowa. Betty, born on November 19, 1932 in Columbus, Nebraska, passed away on September 26, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her husband Jack Placzek; her parents, Peter Dischner and Ann Dischner (Backman); her siblings, Larry Dischner and Mary Jane Bernt; her daughter Cindy Kern; and her close friend Henry "Hank" Hockenberger.
She is survived by: her children, David of Iowa City, IA, Karen Madsen (Darrel) of Newark, OH, Nancy Nevins (Don) of Adel, IA, Linda Wilson (Brian) of Indianola, IA and Julie Lovell (Dan) of Yorba Linda, CA; and her son-in-law Randy Kern of Atlantic. She is also survived by many grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home - Atlantic (1804 E 7th St, Atlantic, IA 50022). A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM at the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church (106 W 6th St, Atlantic, IA 50022). A committal service will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 from 11:15 AM to 11:30 AM at the Saint Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery (63119 White Pole Rd, Atlantic, IA 50022). A reception will be held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home - Atlantic (1804 E 7th St, Atlantic, IA 50022).
