He was predeceased by: his mother Joan Dorothy Nielsen (Poulsen); his sister-in-law Tori Spencer; and his father-in-law John K. Weighton. He is survived by: his father Thomas Ray Nielsen of Spencer, IA; his wife Trisha Nielsen of Audubon, IA; his daughter Adrianne Nielsen; his grandson Emmett Klug of Grimes, IA; his children, Jayden Nielsen of Audubon, IA and Katelyn Nielsen (Cameron Fry) of Carlisle, Iowa; his sister Carla Swank (Jeff) of Spencer, IA; his nephew Michael Swank (Nikki Riley); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Zoie of Spencer, IA, Westen of Spencer, IA and Owen of Spencer, IA; his niece Marisa Patet (Matt) of Minnetonka, MN; and his parents-in-law, Tim Wahlert (Beth) of Audubon, IA and Peggy Weighton of Audubon.

Visitation was held on Friday, June 27th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church (326 Leroy St, Audubon, IA 50025). A funeral service was held on Saturday, June 28th 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location. A committal service was held on Saturday, June 28th 2025 from 11:30 AM to 11:45 AM at the Maple Grove Cemetery N Arlington. A reception was held on Saturday, June 28th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church (326 Leroy St, Audubon, IA 50025).
