With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of JoAnn Barten (Audubon, Iowa), whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on February 8, 2026 at the age of 83. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Herman Jorgen Nielsen Schmidt and Margaret Martha Porsch Schmidt (Fiscus); her husband Roger Gene Barten of Botna; her parents-in-law, John and Elda Barten; her grandparents, Soren, Anna Schmidt, Adolf and Marie Porsch; her siblings-in-law, Phyllis Elaine Schmidt Hoffman, Thomas G. Hoffman, Dorothy Barten Armentrout, Richard Armentrout, Robert Barten and Diane Allen Barten; and her cousin Larry Porsch.
She is survived by: her children, JoAnn (Roger), Douglas Gene, Dennis Dean and Gary Lynn (Kristi Sue Siwajek); her children-in-law, Dawn Marie Barten and Gary Siwajek; her granddaughters, Elizabeth Barten and Audrey Siwajek; her siblings-in-law, Linda Barten and Steve Atkins; her nieces and nephews, Jerry Hoffman, Steve Hoffman, Brian Hoffman, Jenny Hoffman Boelter, Bryan Armentrout, Derek Armentrout, Tanya Armentrout Purdy, Mark Barten, Matthew Barten, Amber Atkins Willman and Kelly Atkins Medanic; her cousins, Janet Petersen Tryon, Everett Petersen, Lynette Schmidt Spetman, Jerry Schmidt, Marvin Jo Porsch, Twyla Schultz Mitson, Darwin Schultz, Myles Schultz, Lynn Porsch, Laurel Porsch Greif, Arnie Porsch, Carolyn Porsch Schock Gottlieb, Christine Porsch Thollander, Lucille, Emanuel Petersen, Victor, Irene Schmidt, Wendell, Dorothy Petersen Lange, Ivan Petersen, Herman, Elsie Porsch, Judy Porsch, Donald Froyd, Erna Porsch Schultz, Ray Schultz, Otto Porsch, Darlene Stoelk Porsch, Lanny Porsch, Arnold Porsch and Katie Schmidt Porsch; and her grandchildren, John Barten and Karsten Barten.
