He was predeceased by: his parents, Hans Christian Andersen Madsen and Elizabeth Cecelia Madsen (Conrad); his wife Gert of Patrick's Catholic Church; his son Mark Madsen; his sisters-in-law, Mary Louise Jensen (Paul) and Sally Bowman; and his siblings, Ed, Joe, Leo and Anna Margaret Stanley.
He is survived by: his brother-in-law Jim Bowman of Urbandale, IA; and his children, John (Pat Madsen), Dr. Jim (Amy Madsen), Dr. Jill Madsen of Sumter, SC, Julie (Craig Jensen) and Joni Madsen (Bill Fankell). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and several cousins.
