She was predeceased by: her parents, Leo Fier and Clara Fier (Holdgrafer); her husband Edwin T. Berthel; her son Lorin Berthel; her son-in-law Darrel Hueneke; her grandchildren, Shawn Berthel and Dustin Klemme; her great grandchild Jill Willimack; and her in-laws, Joseph Fier (Eunice), Lawrence Fier (Arlene), Robert Fier, Arthur Fier, Leo Fier, Jr. (Darlene), Gerald Berthel, John Berthel (Phyllis), Harvey Berthel (Mary), Loras Berthel (Mariela), Bob Sterk, Tom McAllister, Larry Dalton and Lawrence Powell.
She is survived by: her children, James "Jim" Berthel (Terese), Judith "Judy" Hueneke-Kremer (Robert "Bob"), Roger Berthel (Susan), Shelia Klemme (Dennis) and Darren Berthel (Jennifer); and her sisters-in-law, Pearl Fier, Gretchen Fier, Verna Powell, Grace Sterk, Marlene McAllister and Mary Jean Nantz (Wayne). She is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 18th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service (100 N 6th St, Bellevue, IA 52031). A Mass was held on Thursday, September 18th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church (405 Franklin St, Bellevue, IA 52031).
A memorial fund has been established in Marie's memory.
