He was predeceased by: his parents, John "Jack" Downes and Geraldine Downes (Eckermann); his brother Lawrence; and his sister-in-law Emma Lou Downes. He is survived by: his wife BJ Downes; his children, Bradley (Lauren Downes) and Rebecca (Tom Lubarsky); his grandchildren, Audrey, Caroline, Collin Downes, Nora and Benjamin Lubarsky; and his siblings, Sandra Benda, Daniel Downes (JoAnne), Richard Downes (Kim), Denise Nitcher (Travis) and Jacqueline Dykstra (Robert). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 5th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and on Monday, October 6th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A Mass will be held on Monday, October 6th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. John Vianney Catholic Church (4097 18th St, Bettendorf, IA 52722). A burial will be held on Monday, October 6th 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Rock Island National Cemetery (1600 River Dr, Moline, IL 61265).
