He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Schmell and Lena Schmell (Gibbs); his siblings, Gerald, Roland, Ralph and Marrianna Picolet; his brothers-in-law, Bill Sandman and Marv Couchman; and his pet Maggie.

He is survived by: his daughter Brooke Schmell of Geneseo; his siblings, Lorretta Sandman, Jane Mullins of Moravia, Frances Paul (Tony) of Mystic, Everett Schmell (Dee) of Blue Grass and Jimmy (Vickey) of Centerville; and his pet Snowball. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
