He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Calhoon and Mary Calhoon (Spears); his brother Russell "Bud" Spears; his niece Wendy Louck; and his great grandchild Vincent Roche.

He is survived by: his wife Terri Sides of Buckingham; his daughters, Brandee Clark (Jeremy) of Waverly and Heather Chingren (Mike); his grandchildren, Matthew Chingren (Wendy) of Clarksville, TN, Sarah Chingren (Isaac Harmelink) of Ames and Morgan Chingren (Nicholas Routt) of Keithville, LA; and his sisters, Connie Wilkins of Davenport, Debbie Glenn (Clu) of Albia, Donna Louck (Don) of Stockton, IA and Tina Sandoval (Chava) of East Moline, IL. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
