Doug Houstoun wrote a sympathy message

“To Dea Burns' loving family, Please accept my belated condolences on the passing of "Miss Burns". She was a vivacious teacher inspiring one of my careers, teaching high school and college after my retirement from law enforcement. I still have memories of her class ('66). She demonstrated where a speaker should look; the audiences' hair. She reached out and touched the top of my hair. She then said, "Do you wear hairspray?" Not very manly at the time. Everyone got a chuckle at that, even me.”
