He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie Alfred and Florence Luella Swailes (Whaley); and his sisters, Delores Crees and Luella Moore. He is survived by: his wife Martha Viola Swailes (Shovestull) of Burlington; his sister Darlene Hanson (Jim) of New London, IA; his stepchildren, Clayton Reitz (Susan) of Burlington, Walter Burton Reitz II of Burlington, Dianna Murray (Jim) of West Burlington, IA and Denise Deitrick (Dutch) of Mediapolis, IA; Tammy Swailes of Ukraine and Lisa Swailes of Spring, TX. He is also survived by 6 grandkids.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Wounded Warriors Project.
