He was predeceased by: his parents, George Dahlsten and Mildred Dahlsten (Leas); and his brother George Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Janice Dahlsten of Burlington; his sons, Bradley Dahlsten of Ames and Matthew Dahlsten (Kaela) of Roland, IA; his grandchildren, Henry, Max and Amelia; and his brother Frank Dahlsten of Burlington.
A memorial has been established to be used for local conservation and community efforts.
