He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester Rettig and Marie Rettig (Waddell); his son Randy; and his brothers, Don, Richard and Ed (Alice Hart).
He is survived by: his children, Robin Smith, Perry Rettig of Burlington, Robert Rettig, Jon Hart (Peggy) of West Burlington, Brad Hart (Jade) of Cedar Rapids and Lorna Naifeh (Jeff) of Charlotte; his brother-in-law Don Myatt (Venita); and his friends, Doris Lyons and Gregg Koestner of Burlington. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren.
A memorial has been established for the West Hill United Methodist Church, St. Jude's Children Hospital, and Paws Animal Shelter in Fort Madison.
