He was predeceased by: his father Steven McDowell; his brother Danny Lee McDowell; and his grandparents, Arlene, William McDowell, Alice and Don Hamilton.

He is survived by: his mother Ruby Lou McDowell (Hamilton) of Burlington; his wife Dawn McDowell of Bradly, Illinois; and his brother Jared Lee (Michele) of Burlington. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

A memorial has been established at the funeral home in memory of Shawn.
