He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Avey and Vivian Avey (Ticknor); and his siblings, Lavonne, Irene, Bruce and Larry.

He is survived by: his wife Nadine Avey (Strong); his children, Charles E. Avey (Isa), Kim Avey (Dennis Harris) and Scott Avey; his grandchildren, April Hewitt (Kevin), Lindsay Hess (Derrick), Christopher Rochholz, Tom Avey, Samantha Avey, Geoffrey Avey, Jennifer Avey, Jerika Beeler (Mike) and Jocelynn Avey; and his siblings-in-law, Judy Avey, Margaret Wolfe, Joyce Crabb and Dean Strong. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
