He was predeceased by: his parents, Friedrich Rutz and Rosa Rutz (Wenzel); his former wife Preceding; and his siblings, Harold, Margery Mintle and Amos.

He is survived by: his wife E. Lorraine "Pat" Becker; his children, Nicolette, Mark, Lynn and Heather; and his grandchildren, Alexis, John, Alexander and Anastasia. He is also survived by great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Central Lutheran School, Newhall, in his honor.
