He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Daker and Minnie Daker (Knudson); his wife Francine Hertle; his brother Marlin Daker (Margaret); and his brothers-in-law, Richard Hertle and Dennis Hertle.

He is survived by: his son Steven Etzel (Teresa) of Marion; his grandchildren, Gabriel Etzel of Marion, Grace Ulmer (Kenan) of Marion and Noah Etzel of Marion; his great grandchildren, Elijah and Chloe Ulmer; his sister Joy Mote (Jim) of Delhi; and his sisters-in-law, Sandra Hertle of Atkins and Judy Hertle of Newhall. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church, The Cedar Valley Marine Corps League, or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
