It is with sadness that the passing of Earl Edward Schmelzer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa is shared. Earl, born on December 26, 1945, passed away on October 8, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
Earl will be remembered for the time spent with loved ones and the moments that brought joy to those around him. Friends and family will honor Earl by reflecting on shared memories and the positive influence he had in their lives. Though Earl is no longer present, the bonds he created and the experiences shared will endure. Earl’s memory will continue to be a source of comfort for all who knew him.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Max Schmelzer and Janet Schmelzer; his wife Bonnie Schmelzer of Jude's Catholic Church; and his son Brian Schmelzer. He is survived by: his daughters, Julie (Eric), Vicki and Sang (Ngoc); and his siblings, Rick (Sandy), Ruth (Daryl), Rita and Rosemary. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Brosh Chapel (2121 Bowling St SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404). A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the St Ludmila Catholic Church (211 21st Ave SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404).
