He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert F. Heilers and Alvina A. Heilers (Klas); his wife Judy; his daughter Cherie Dandurand; and his brother-in-law Gene Richter.

He is survived by: his former wife Judith Ann Richter; his children, Kevin Heilers of Cedar Rapids, Greg Heilers of Kansas City, Gary Heilers (Tracy) of St. Charles and Traci Byrnes (Daniel) of Waukon; his grandchildren, Richard Dandurand (Alyssa Mendenhall), Eddie Dandurand, Ian, Andrew, Zack Heilers and Natalie Byrnes; his son-in-law Robert Dandurand of Salix; his brother John Heilers (Beverly Jo) of Bemidji, Minnesota; and his siblings-in-law, John Richter (Lynne) of Earlville, Faye Meyers (Wayne) of Eugene, Joann Proctor (Collin) of Wilton, Diane Stone (Jim) of Cedar Rapids and Suzy Richter of Solon. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
