He is survived by: his wife Maureen Thompson (Kuester); his children, Ryan Thompson (Karyn) of Deerfield, IL, Sara Kuennen (Kyle) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Alisa Buchanan (Robert) of Brandon, IA and Kathy Trca of Marion, IA; his grandchildren, Arlo, Rosemary, Valerie Thompson, Lucy, Asa, Quinn Kuennen, Austin, Sydney Schantz and Anthony Trca (MacKenzie); and his sister Karen Meroshek of Marion, IA.. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the family to be directed toward his favorite charities.
