With heavy hearts, we announce the death of George Cavanaugh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, born in Ottumwa, Iowa, who passed away on December 29, 2022 at the age of 91. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, George Cavanaugh and Mildred Cavanaugh (Anderson); his wife Rose Marie; and his sister Donna Felker. He is survived by: his daughter Cecelia Gustafson (Tom); his grandchildren, Greta, Ingrid, Elsa and Swen of Cedar Rapids; his son Chris; his great grandchild Hannah of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; his son Craig (Karen); his grandsons, Dylan, Ian and Nolan of Cedar Rapids; his sons, Curt of Cedar Rapids, Cary of Cedar Rapids and Charles (Tammy); his grandchild Lawrencia of Cedar Rapids; and his siblings-in-law, Mary Ellen Schmitz of Kirkville, Tina Schmitz of Cedar Rapids, Don Felker of Ankeny and Ron Schmitz (Ryan) of Ecuador. He is also survived by his six children and nine grandchildren.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to all of the staff at the Hospice House of Mercy and asks that in lieu of flowers, all donations be directed to this wonderful home and its ongoing mission.
