He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Floyd Downing and Flora Downing (Hoskins); his wife Patricia Downing; his children, Steve, Susan and David Downing; and his grandson Alan. He was also cherished by eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
