He was predeceased by: his parents, Ellie Howe and Frances Howe (Wright); his wife Elaine Elizabeth West; and his sisters, Lois Ann Hanson and Donna Mae Schostock.

He is survived by: his sons, Roger Howe (Karla) of Maple Grove, Timothy Howe (Susan) of Coon Rapids, Curtis Howe of Cedar Rapids and Doug Howe (Kathy) of Marion; his grandchildren, Randy, Nicole Robertson (Andy), Elya, Luke, Erik (Samantha), Nathan, Jessica Thurmond (Quentin), Andrew and Chloe Konigsmark (Andrew); and his sisters, June Neuman (Richard) of Lodi and Barbara Petersen (Sheridan) of Brownton, Minnesota.. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.

Per John's wishes, cremation has taken place and no public services will be held at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
