She is survived by: her daughters, Karrie Higgins (Alan Murdock) of Cedar Rapids and Denise Wedel (Jerry) of Marion; her stepson Scott Higgins (Jodi) of Cedar Rapids; her brothers, Kenneth Newton of Michigan and George Newton of Illinois; her grandchildren, Eli Wedel (Anne Seifert) of Cedar Rapids, Sophia Wedel (Justin Tueke) of Marion and Gabe Wedel of Marion; her stepgranddaughter Crystal Higgins of California; her great grandchild Maisie; her stepgreat-granddaughter Emma; her sisters-in-law, Marian Buhr of North Carolina and Joneita Wagner of Monona; her nephew Bob Davis of Oregon; and her friend Eleanor Thorpe.
Karen was a member of the Red Hat Ladies club, active at the Freedom Foundation with Clifford, and loved sewing stuffed sheep, which she called babas.
