He was predeceased by: his father Lloyd Cooling; his parents-in-law, Walter and Mary Ellen Drew; his grandparents, Bob, Marian Malatek, Eldon and Julia Cooling; and his niece Jennifer Drew.

He is survived by: his mother Lois Cooling of Ely; his wife Sue Cooling (Drew); his children, Nick Cooling (Cassie), Chris Cooling (Becca) of Des Moines and Lauren Cooling (Carter Ives) of Cedar Rapids; his grandsons, Carter, Corbin, Calvin, Miller and Hayes Cooling; his sisters, Jackie Brown (Mark) of Cedar Rapids and Kim Cooling of Ely; and his siblings-in-law, Clark Drew (Sandy) of Vinton, Kevin Drew (Terri) of Cedar Rapids, Craig (Kris) of Cedar Rapids, Kurt Drew (Tya) of Cedar Rapids, Kelly Drew (Jill) of Deland, FL and Beth Hartauer (Gus) of Carmel, IN. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
