He was predeceased by: his brother David; and his father-in-law Paul Hansel. He is survived by: his wife Julie Hansel; his brother Gary Novak (Elaine) of Springfield, IL; his mother-in-law Barbara Hansel of Cedar Rapids; his brother-in-law Brett Hansel (Sarah) of Cedar Rapids; and his pets, Roger and Tilly. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family or a donation may be made in his memory to Eastern Iowa Arts Academy in Cedar Rapids to support young musicians to follow their dreams, just like he did.
