He was predeceased by: his father Donald Dee. He is survived by: his wife Karen Kappmeyer; his sons, Alexander and Stephen; his sister Tamara Van Dee of Riley, Michigan; and his mother Elizabeth "Liz" Kauffman Van Dee of Buffalo, MO. He is also survived by numerous other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorials may be made in Shawn's name to the Albert and Helen Nassif Radiation Center.
