She was predeceased by: her husband Raymond Vander Wiel; her sister Beverly Petersen; her sister-in-law Carol Petersen; her parents, Norman Petersen and Evelyn Petersen (Dierks); her former husband Ronald Lee Rasmussen; Gerrit, Gerald, Frank, Henry, Ruthie, Anna Mae, Marjorie and Jeremiah Vander Wiel.
She is survived by: her brother Lynn Petersen of Aurora, CO; her children, R. Dean of Cedar Rapids, Diane (Tom Sibbernsen) of Runnells and David Rasmussen (Holly) of North Liberty; her nephew Jeff; Brenda, Scott (Linda) of Los Alamos, NM, Kurt (Kara) of Waverly, Russell Vander Wiel of St. Paul, MN, Taylor, Garrett (Emily), Elena Rasmussen, Deanna (Nick), Alexandra Lines, Janelle Kinman (Casey), Jonathan (Amanda), Micah, Logan (Lauren), Caleb (Claire) and Ethan Vander Wiel (Delaney). She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and dear extended family.
Shirley Rae Vander Wiel, 86, of Cedar Rapids, gained her angel wings on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Linn Manor Care Center in Marion, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
