He was predeceased by: his parents, Chris Neal and Inez Neal (Van Dee); his siblings, Margaret Fisher, Madeline Bell, Mabel Long, Claire Vokt and John Neal; and his son-in-law Brian Garbe.
He is survived by: his wife Evelyn Neal; his children, William "Bill" Neal (Darlene) of Iowa City, Brenda Van Gorp (Wayne) of Cedar Rapids and Connie Caviness (John) of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Amy Kay (Ryan) of Cedar Rapids, Beth Keeney (Zachary) of Waverly, Jordan Caviness (Kiyla) of Hiawatha and Brent "BJ" Caviness (Bryana) of Dows, Iowa; and his great grandchildren, Addison, Landon, Cash, Nolan, Hadley, John and Scout.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church.
